The body requires sugar, primarily in the form of glucose for energy. Glucose is derived from simple sugars (carbohydrates) and complex sugars (carbohydrates). Simple sugars like glucose, fructose (fruit sugar), lactose (milk sugar), dextrose, corn syrup, maltose, sucrose (white table sugar) and galactose, all raise blood glucose levels very quickly (high glycaemic index) which causes an equal rise (spike) in insulin release from the pancreas. Insulin is a long chain of amino acids (the building blocks of protein) molecule, whose principle job is to transport glucose into the cells and mitochondria (the cells power houses) to combine with oxygen and produce energy. White flour, white bread, white rice, white pasta and white potato (including mash potato) are all converted rapidly to glucose which raises blood sugar and insulin levels significantly over a short period of time. Unfortunately high levels of sugar and insulin in the blood cause inflammation and damage to the blood vessels and nerves and eventually organ damage of the heart, brain, kidneys, eyes and immune system. If the sugar is not all used up for energy production it is converted to fat. Chronic high sugar levels and constant insulin secretion from the pancreas leads to obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated “LDL” cholesterol and triglyceride fats and metabolic syndrome. There are a number of nutritional agents and plant substances which can help to reduce or balance and control sugar and insulin levels in the blood and cells. Complex carbohydrates like wholewheat or multigrain bread, brown or wild rice, sweet potato with the skins on and lentil or vegetable pasta, all release glucose slowly into the blood stream (low to moderate glycaemic index) and lower insulin secretion and levels, therefore causing less harm and less weight gain and less risk of diabetes.
XTREME SUGAR & INSULIN CONTROL – IGX CAPSULES (60)
Xtreme’s Sugar & Insulin Control capsules contain the following ingredients which have been shown to help control or balance blood glucose and insulin levels in the body, thereby reducing the risk of fat storage, weight gain, diabetes, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome:
Chromium Polynicotinate:
An essential trace element in the form of Chromium Polynicotinate which helps to balance blood sugar levels and helps insulin to perform its function of transporting glucose into cells to be burnt for energy.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA):
This is a unique essential fat and water soluble anti-oxidant found in the mitochondria of all cells with multiple functions including assisting energy production, sugar level control, detoxification, brain and organ function and prevention of oxidative stress.
Berberine extract:
An extract from the Barberry and Goldenseal Plants. In recent research it was shown to be more effective than metformin (Glucophage) without the side effects. Berberine has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-cancer and cholesterol (LDL) lowering properties. It is also used for PCOS and may help with diabetes and high blood pressure.
L-Taurine:
This is an amino sulfuric acid manufactured from other amino acids and is high in breast milk. It is important for healthy red blood cells, heart function, brain and nerves, platelets and the retina. Used for diabetes, inflammation, congestive heart failure and hepatitis of the liver.
Gymnema Sylvestre:
An Ayurvedic herb used for controlling blood sugar and to treat diabetes. It inhibits the taste of sugar and blocks the absorption of sugar up to 50%. It may be able to enhance the function and production of insulin. In a study in moderately obese individuals it was found to reduce LDL cholesterol levels and triglycerides.
Cinnamon Extract:
Cinnamon extract is derived from the spice, Cinnamon, which contains active compounds which help lower blood glucose levels, improve insulin sensitivity, decrease fat in the liver (fatty liver) and increase fat burning metabolism. There is some evidence that it can improve brain function and memory. It has also been used as a natural remedy for headaches, migraine, reducing bile, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal gas, liver detoxification, morning sickness, lower LDL cholesterol levels and triglycerides. It also has anti-fungal and anti-clotting properties. Many of the functions are attributed to catechins and other anti-oxidants.
